HACCP & GMP – Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points / Good Manufacturing Practice

What is HACCP & GMP?

HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) is a systematic, science-based approach to identifying and controlling biological, chemical, and physical hazards in food production. Rather than relying on end-product testing, HACCP focuses on preventing hazards at every stage of the production process — making it one of the most effective food safety methodologies in use worldwide.

GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) establishes the baseline standards for hygiene, cleanliness, and operational controls in food production environments. It covers everything from facility design and equipment maintenance to personal hygiene and pest control. GMP is the foundation that HACCP is built upon — without it, an effective HACCP system cannot function.

Together, HACCP and GMP form the bedrock of food safety compliance and are often the starting point for food businesses not yet ready for full ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 certification.

Who needs it?

HACCP and GMP compliance is relevant to any business involved in the preparation, production, or handling of food.

It's particularly valuable for:

  • Small to medium food manufacturers and processors

  • Catering services and restaurants

  • Food packaging and storage businesses

  • Organisations working toward ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 certification

  • Any food business subject to regulatory inspection or audit
